Governors
Welcome to Our Governors
Welcome to the Governing Body of Lowton Church of England High School. Our governors work alongside school leaders to help shape the future of the school, contributing to its strategic direction and helping to ensure the best possible education and opportunities for all pupils.
Governing is a voluntary role. Our governors give their time and expertise to make a meaningful contribution to the life of the school and the wider community, helping to shape the education and wellbeing of future generations.
What Our Governors Do
Working collaboratively with each other and with senior leaders, our governors contribute to:
- Setting the school's strategic direction and vision
- Holding the leadership team to account for educational performance
- Overseeing financial performance and ensuring the effective use of resources
- Supporting and challenging leaders to ensure the best outcomes for pupils
- Bringing a range of perspectives, including those of parents and carers, to strategic discussions while acting in the interests of the whole school community
Governors bring valuable insight from their own experience and backgrounds, including as parents and carers. Like all governors, they act in the interests of the school as a whole, using that insight to inform good strategic decision-making for the benefit of every pupil.
Our Governing Body
Our Governing Body brings together a wealth of experience from education, law, business, charity leadership and community service. Current governors include:
- Current and retired Headteachers
- A Solicitor
- The CEO of a national arts and cultural education charity
- A Deputy Headteacher of a Special Educational Needs school
- Members of the Clergy
- Members of the Teaching Profession
- A former Surveyor
Together, our governors form a knowledgeable and supportive team, bringing their own experiences and perspectives to help shape the strategic direction and continued success of the school.
What Our Governors Bring
Our governors are:
- Committed to improving educational outcomes for all young people at the school
- Able to think strategically, exercise independent judgement and work effectively as part of a team
- Able to maintain appropriate confidentiality and objectivity
- Willing to attend meetings and undertake relevant training
Every governing board benefits from a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience, and we value the different perspectives each governor brings, including their contribution to the development of the school's Christian ethos.
Just as important are the personal qualities governors bring, including the ability to build positive relationships, ask constructive questions, analyse information and work collaboratively with others. Governors are also expected to be able to understand straightforward budget reports and information relating to school performance.
